About Brian Kinahan

Brian helps CEOs succeed by executing a superior strategy in organizations where people are included, informed and engaged. He does this by guiding CEOs and their management teams in the adoption of a strategic management process with follow-on support to help accelerate progress. Please refer to the business principles section for more information on Brian’s approach.

In 1978 Brian earned his MBA in Finance from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management after receiving his undergraduate degree in Economics from Vassar College. He spent his early years at Security Pacific National Bank where he served as Vice President in the Special Assets department with responsibility for restructuring loans to corporate borrowers in distress both in the US and Mexico. He then served as interim Chief Operating Officer of Barco of California, a publicly traded apparel company, and then went into turnaround consulting focused on Los Angeles based small to medium sized companies. From there he was recruited to be Chief Operating Officer of Smith Environmental, the market leader in the design and construction of large industrial fume incinerators.

In 1993 Brian moved his family to the Research Triangle area where he founded and led ReadyCom, a venture-backed wireless technology company. ReadyCom’ commercialized its innovative cellular-based voice paging system in South America with help from Korean financial and manufacturing partners.

In 2000 Brian joined Catalysta Partners, a technology venture firm with a general management consulting practice directed at early stage Research Triangle Park technology companies. In 2003 he launched Summit Performance Systems to pursue his passion of for helping companies develop and fully execute winning strategies.

Brian is co-founder of the NC CEO Forum, an annual leadership conference featuring leading C-level executives and prominent speakers like author Jim Collins, publisher Steve Forbes and ice cream superstars Ben and Jerry. He is an active volunteer with the Chapel Hill Senior Center and is the founder of Chapel Hill’s annual earth day celebration. Brian also serves on the Board as Treasurer of NC Arts in Action, a Durham-based nonprofit that teaches team work and leadership to public school 4th graders. Brian’s wife is an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles, their daughter works for a NGO in Washington, DC and their son attends UNC Chapel Hill.
